Notes to bike ride of 990925: It was a sunny, but cool saturday, after a cloudy, rainy evening the night before. 10:40 Heading out, after replacing the "designer" front tire with a regular one. Bike chain still out of adjustment and "rattles" at the edge of the gears. Down Monkland, Sherebrooke, St. Jackques hill to VSP. 10:50 VSP. Begin rideabout looking for city hall. Finally find it an d take some pictures, as it will soon dissappear. VSP has now amalgamated with Lachine. Rideabout lasts about 10 minutes. Head west on St. Jacques, under underpass, to intersection at end of Notre Dame. Take Bike/Bus road through to end of Victoria. 11:07 At the end of Victoria in Lachine. 1st Ave. Follow Victoria route to bike path, and bike path to DQ 11:25 At DQ. Lighthouse point. The Lachine wharf. The end of the old rail line along which the bike path goes. The lake is clearer that I have ever seen it. With field glasses I can see 3 pilon lighthouses out in the lake. I can see the water tower of Macdonald college. I can see the escarpment out past Ile Perrot. And I see a tall hill somewhere in the West Island. 11:40 I reach the Dorval line, leaving the bike path for Lakeshore Blvd. 11:50 Dorval Centre. The ferry dock for Dorval Island. the "town of Dorval Island" From end of parking lot by ferry, sight out west side of island right accross to Beauharnois dam. Stop by Henning & Elie's place to say hello. They are out on back terrace. 12:30 At Pte Claire line, after having stopped at garage sale and bought lots of heavy books, including one big one that I had to strap on the back. Alas, all my bungy cords seem to have gone missing. I taped it temporarily. 12:50 At Pte Claire village, having rounded Valois bay. 12:55 Beaconsfield line. Stopped for another garage sale. nothing interesting. Take lakeshore loop. 13:05 At St. Charles road. Stop to rideabout shopping centre looking for store to buy bungy cord. Did not find in big centre, but found in small behind. Not perfect, but they will do. Re-strap book, and wrap in plastic from depanneur. Depanneur guy tries to cheat me out of ten cents (priced 1.69, sold for 1.79). Mcd for lunch: Hamburger and drink. 13:35 On my way, west along Beaconsfied blvd. Not too nice. Left at Circle to bike path along lakeshore. 14:05 Baie d'urfe line 14:27 Ste. Anne line 14:30 Ste. Anne waterfront. Walk along boardwalk. Water level very, very low. The rapids are nearly dry. Just an expanse of rocks with some quiet pools in them, and a few rivulets. Iced cream. (Ste. Anne. First time saw was easter '74, w new bike. I had rode along lakeshore as far as Beaconsfield, and then called Chris, who lived in Baie d'urfe. Went to have easter dinner w Chris's family (and pissed off Cathy, who could not be there.)
